In 1997, Michael Kacaba launched Kacaba Vineyards and as a result saved prime Niagara Escarpment Benchland from a developer’s bulldozer. Today the winery crafts a full range of wines, including award-winning estate-grown Syrah (Ontario’s oldest plantings). With a view across Lake Ontario to Toronto, guests are welcomed to sample wines of merit including Canadian and international award winners.

WINEMAKER PROFILE
Head Winemaker, Chris Robinson
Chris graduated the Niagara College Wine and Viticulture program in 2007. Since taking the program, he has never stopped learning about wine and the wine industry. In 2006, Chris’ first co-op in the wine industry was along side Andrzej Lipinski where he took on an established winery and three new wineries. During his first harvest, it became clear that winemaking was his destiny. 20 years later, and 11 wineries started, Chris has honed his skills to cover the many styles of winemaking, including appassimento method, natural fermentations, traditional method sparkling, orange wine/skin fermented white and cap management.
Having travelled across Europe, Australia and South America, Chris has had the privilege of tasting wines and sharing personal insight and winemaking techniques with some of the top winemakers and producers in the world.
“My winemaking style has taken me across the globe in pursuit of knowledge and taste. Today my style brings depth of experience to every bottle, crafting wines that reflect both place and purpose.” — Chris Robinson, Winemaker, Kacaba Vineyards & Winery
Here at home in the Niagara Benchlands, Chris’ craft can be described as minimalistic. “Simplexity” is a term coined in the cellar – the art of crafting wines that are deceptively simple in their elegance, yet reveal layered depth and complexity.
