Trius Showcase Wild Ferment Chardonnay ‘Watching Tree Vineyard’ 2020
Trius Winery and Restaurant
The Watching Tree vineyard was planted in 1989 with clone 95 and 96 Chardonnay vines on stony, pebbly soil which was once an ancient riverbed. The hand-picked Chardonnay grapes are whole-bunch pressed; the juice is cold settled in tank, then sent to barrel for fermentation. The wine was aged sur lie in 225L French oak barriques for 10 months without malolactic fermentation. Clear and bright with a straw yellow hue, the bouquet has aromas of tropical fruit, ripe red apple, Meyer lemon, oak, and a touch of spice and toffee. The mouthfeel is slightly rich, round, and smooth with notes of tropical fruits, oak, grilled lemon, and spice.
