Marquette

90 points - David Lawrason, Wine Align
Our flagship red grape and Ontario's newest VQA varietal. These 100% Georgian Bay grapes were hand-picked and hand-sorted. After a slow ferment, they were aged 50% in French oak barrels and 50% stainless steel tanks. The result is a medium-bodied red complex with spice, smoke and coffee. The cooler fall temperatures allowed these grapes to stay lower in fermentable sugars while still reaching their full phenolic ripening. The winemaker chose a lighter style for this vintage to honor the delicate nature of this 2021's harvest. The result is a Marquette with elegance and structure, while still retaining the pepper and spice notes that fans of this grape appreciate. 13.0% abv Dry - 4g/L residual sugar Decanter World Wine Awards 2024 Beautiful aromas of red fruit, light cherry syrup with hints of chocolate, caramel and wet stones. Very appealing and light on the palate. David Lawrason, Wine Align: Marquette is one of the most promising Minnesota winter hardy hybrids, and it is showing good results here. If only others could make it with this delicate sensibility. This is a very fresh, juicy, easy drinking red very mindful of gamay. Expect plummy fruit, lilac florality and a hint of oak spice. Tannins are very fine, the length is very good to excellent. Tasted April 2024Vintage2021
