The 2018 vintage was challenging and full of dashed hopes. After a superb summer, September brought lots of rain, at a time when it is least desirable particularly for red wines. Winemaker Marc Bradshaw took a patient route leaving the Merlot grapes to dehydrate on the vines until late October and then selected four specific barrels to make this intriguing blend. The Distinctive Small Lot Merlot Barrel Select is a light garnet colour with aromas of dried figs, dark cherries, blackberries, vanilla, coffee, mocha and a touch of dry herbs. A truly mouth-pleasing Merlot with notes of dry red-black fruits, vanilla and dark chocolate, delicate tannins and a juicy finish.
