Introducing Fracette: Sparkling Wine, Reimagined in Ontario

Ontario has a new sparkling wine category, and it comes with a distinctly Canadian twist.

Writing for VineRoutes, Carmelo Giardina introduces Fracette, a new Ontario VQA sparkling wine style that uses Icewine as the sole sugar source for secondary fermentation.

The feature looks at what sets Fracette apart, from its use of Icewine in the winemaking process to the different expressions emerging from Ontario producers, offering a closer look at how this new category is taking shape.

It’s another perspective on the innovation, experimentation and cool-climate strengths behind Ontario’s newest VQA wine category. Launching with six wines from three Ontario producers, Fracette is designed to offer something uniquely Canadian, putting a distinctly Ontario spin on a classic sparkling wine technique.
