Burning Kiln
Burning Kiln carries the hopes of a new Ontario wine region on its shoulders. Businessman Mike McArthur and several partners have built on the region's past as a prime tobacco-growing area to create a state-of-the-art, visually stunning winery. The vineyard overlooks Lake Erie and UNESCO-designated Long Point World Biosphere Reserve, and the grounds are maintained according to the environmental standards of the Alternative Land Use Stewardship program. Winemaker Andrjez Lipinski brings his passion for "appassimento" wines made from grapes dried or partially dried in former tobacco-drying kilns on the property. Its 2010 'Strip Room' was recently chosen as the official red wine of Ontario's Legislative Assembly for 2012.
